1. Face masks:
It’s surprisingly easy to make face masks at home, with simple ingredients that you probably already have! Choose a recipe according to your skin concerns, apply to your face, and wash off after 15-20 minutes.
Redness and Irritation:
Combine 1 teaspoon honey, 1 teaspoon coconut oil, and about ¼ of a ripe, mashed avocado in a bowl. The honey and coconut oil both have antibacterial and antifungal effects, which can help reduce acne and other skin inflammation! The coconut oil and avocado also act to help moisturize skin.
Uneven Texture and Pigmentation:
Combine 1 tablespoon natural plain yogurt, 1 tablespoon honey, and 1 tablespoon turmeric powder. The yogurt contains lactic acid, which acts as an exfoliant to help slough off dead skin cells-- and exfoliating is key to help even out your skin texture. Turmeric is known for its anti-inflammatory purposes and for helping to even out hyperpigmentation!
Dull, Dry Skin:
Mix 1 tablespoon plain yogurt, 1 teaspoon oatmeal, and 1 teaspoon honey. The exfoliating effects of the lactic acid will help brighten skin, while the honey and oatmeal soothe skin and hydrate!
2. Exfoliating Body Scrub:
This simple scrub works wonders for smoothing and brightening skin all over the body! Just combine 1 tablespoon coconut oil, 1 tablespoon sugar, and 1 tablespoon ground coffee and get scrubbing! The sugar crystals and coffee grounds are gentle on your skin but can still effectively remove dead skin cells-- just be sure to rinse thoroughly so you don’t feel sticky. The caffeine in the coffee grounds has a brightening effect too!
3. Conditioning Hair Mask:
Strengthen your hair, add shine, and smooth dry strands with this conditioning hair mask! Combine 1 avocado, 1 tablespoon olive oil, and 1 tablespoon honey. Add the mixture to dry hair, and let sit for at least half an hour. Rinse the mask out, and shampoo and condition hair. The oils in the avocado, combined with the olive oil and honey, will help hair retain much-needed moisture!
4. Detox Water
Sip on some detox water while waiting for your masks to work! It’ll hydrate your body while also providing an antioxidant boost and helping with digestion. Add a whole sliced lemon to a large glass, and add in some torn mint leaves too. Fill up your glass with filtered water and drink up!
